华为向南非媒体发布官方新闻稿，华为消费者业务CEO余承东证实，麒麟980处理器将在今年9月份的IFA展会上发布，将成为“全球首款商用7nm芯片”。
除此之外，新闻稿还称，华为Mate 20将首发麒麟980，于10月份推出，这并不意外，因为华为Mate 10和Mate 10 Pro都是去年10月发布的。
这几乎是新闻稿的所有重要信息，确认了以前的谣言。据传，华为Mate 20将采用刘海屏，但Mate 20 Pro可能没有刘海，预计两款手机均采用徕卡相机镜头，其中Mate 20 Pro几乎肯定会在背面配备三个摄像头，Mate 20还有待观察。
此前有消息称麒麟980包含一个24核GPU，但网友反映消息并不属实，因此目前关于该处理器的信息还很少，不过余承东曾表示，“我们下半年发布的芯片，将遥遥领先高通845和苹果的芯片。”
