　　Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter ‘Murata’) has added a high cutoff frequency*1 product to its lineup of noise suppression components, the 0504-inch size (1.25 x1.0mm) chip common mode choke coils ‘‘DLM11C_HH2 Series’’ (hereinafter, ‘the product’), suitable for automotive high-speed differential interfaces such as LVDS*2, SerDes*3, USB, and HDMI. Murata has already started mass production of this product.

　　In recent years, the automotive market has seen multiple USB ports installed in each vehicle seat as interfaces for connecting smartphones and PCs, and data transfer speeds have increased from conventional USB 2.0 to Gbps-class USB 3.2. For these differential interfaces, common mode noise suppression is essential, and small common mode choke coils that support high-speed signals are required. In response, Murata developed this product using proprietary lamination technology to reduce high-frequency noise above 7.5 GHz in a compact 0504-inch size.

Because of this, the demand for wireless communication units equipped with human detection functions capable of sensing movement in real time is also increasing to realize more efficient and comfortable environments. One of the key technologies to enable the motion detection function is a pyroelectric infrared sensor. Products which communicate wirelessly require long-term stable operation with reduced battery replacement or charging, thus creating a strong need for pyroelectric infrared sensors that can detect human movement while extending battery life. Additionally, to increase design flexibility inside these products, space-saving measures are essential, driving demand for compact infrared sensors., space-saving measures are essential, driving demand for compact infrared sensors.　　In response, we developed this product using proprietary pyroelectric ceramic technology to achieve low power consumption and a compact size. Even when continuously operating the human detection function, power consumption is kept low, and the sensor includes an interrupt function that activates the microcontroller only when a change is detected, contributing to extended battery life. Furthermore, the compact size enables space-saving, and the adoption of the digital I2C interface simplifies design during development.　　The main features of this product include contributing to overall system power reduction through low power consumption and interrupt functionality, space-saving due to its small and low-profile SMD package, ease of design enabled by built-in amplifier and ADC with digital output (I2C), reduction of false detections and stable operation thanks to high signal-to-noise ratio and EMI noise resistance, Also enabling process cost reduction through reflow compatibility.　　Key specifications are a dual element electrode size of 0.08 × 0.02 inch (2.0 × 0.5 mm), an overall size of 0.24 × 0.24 × 0.10 inch (6.0 × 6.0 × 2.6 mm), typical sensitivity of 19.5 mV, element height of 0.065 inch (1.65 mm), field of view of ±55° horizontal and ±42° vertical, supply voltage from 1.8 to 3.3 V, typical current consumption of 8 µA, and an I2C interface.*

The product’s compact, low-profile design (1.02×0.58×0.27 inches (26×14.8×6.8mm)) enhances layout flexibility on circuit boards. (hereinafter ‘Murata’) commercialized the ‘XRCGB_F_C’ series compact crystal unit (hereinafter ‘this product’) in 2016 size for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI*1) and other automotive applications. Mass production has already begun.　　*1In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI): An automotive function that provides information and entertainment to the driver and passengers through an IT device mounted on the automobile.　　Most in-vehicle infotainment systems use 3225 size crystal units. In recent years, the growing demand for enhanced functionality in electronic systems—particularly with the integration of ADAS*2 — has led to an increased reliance on electronic components. This trend necessitates the development of even smaller electronic parts. Simultaneously, communications standards for in-vehicle systems are also advancing, which results in an intense wireless traffic of these individual devices. Under these circumstances, signal transmission timing must be accurately synchronized between in-vehicle device ICs in order to correctly receive electric signals on frequencies defined by different communications standards and avoid inter-IC communication errors. This therefore requires high-precision timing devices that generate stable clock signals.*3　　*2ADAS: Advanced Driver Assistance System.　　*3Clock signals: Signals transmitted at a stable cycle with certain intervals.　　To respond to this need, Murata developed this 2016-size product for in-vehicle applications, achieving both smaller size and higher precision thanks to our original packaging technique and design and process optimization. Compared to the 3225 size, the new product achieves about 60% reduction in implementation space, contributing to downsizing the device itself while offering enhanced functionality.
